Wasn’t it a Brilliant Breakfast for The Prince’s Trust!

£500 raised to help disadvantaged young women

43 people sat down to a fantastic Breakfast at Copt Heath Golf Club in Knowle on 11th October.  Organised by Soroptimist International Solihull & District members were joined by family and friends.  Professor Sir Nigel Thirsk, one of the Deputy Lieutenants for the Borough of Solihull, joined us together with June Mole from Solihull CAVA.  Local Rotarians from Solihull Rotary and St. Alphege Rotary came as well as Soroptimists from Coventry, Kenilworth and Lichfield.

Young Ambassadors

Megan Thomas from The Prince’s Trust talked about the different projects developed to support young people.  We also had the pleasure of being joined by Emily, one of their Young Ambassadors.   The money raised will help young women like Joanna.  She had suffered with her mental health for almost 10 years before making the decision to reach out to The Prince’s Trust. She is now thriving in her career and even inspired others while acting as a Prince’s Trust Young Ambassador. 

After being admitted to a psychiatric hospital at the age of 15.  Joanna decided to give recovery one last go and researched The Prince’s Trust, applying after she was discharged. She did the Team programme, a twelve-week personal-development course, with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. Whilst on the programme, Joanna undertook a two-week work experience with N Brown, a clothing, footwear, and homewares digital retailer, and afterwards she was taken on permanently in the buying team.  Almost five years on, Joanna is still working full time and has gone from an Admin Assistant to a Junior Buyer. 

 “This opportunity gave me invaluable work experience that I needed at the time. Now, I am in a place where I feel really content and settled in life. I recently bought a house and live with my partner and our two dogs. Me 10 years ago would not recognise me now! … I started Team as someone who was afraid to speak up, had no confidence and was scared to do anything. I finished the programme with a new-found confidence, a willingness to succeed and a genuine belief that I could get better and live a happy life.”
