Visit to our Friendship Link Club Fulda, Germany
In July six members of the Solihull Soroptimist Club were officially welcomed in the Marble Hall of Fulda City Palace. 
The Soroptimist International Club in Fulda is a “Friendship Link” Club with the Solihull Soroptimists. The Fulda Club, chartered in 2006, has 27 members. Both Clubs enjoy the close ties that have developed between them over the years.
How do international Friendships help achieve Soroptimist Goals?
International friendships between clubs are incredibly important said Soroptimist Solihull Club President Jacky Atkinson. Jacky explained that this particularly helps to provide women all over the world with the help and support they need. Soroptimists campaign and especially for the rights of women and girls. Some of the organisation’s goals are for women and girls to
- experience unrestricted education
- have better access to economic independence,
- receive professional support
- no longer experience violence.
Jacky said “It’s a good feeling to know that we’ve already made a difference. But there is still a lot to do.” Solihull Club members continue to work hard to improve the lives of women. The Soroptimist Club in Fulda also has many local projects, such as the meadow orchard on the Landesgartenschau (LGS) which is a tourist attraction in Fulda and the blue benches in the city centre.
“A hearty welcome to Fulda”
City Councillor Bernhard Linder welcomed our members in the Marble Hall in the Stadtschloss City Palace by wishing them “A hearty welcome to Fulda”. Cllr. Lindern spoke of the history, culture, nature and special everyday events of the city. It is the second time that the Fulda Soroptimists have welcomed visitors from our Club to Fulda. The Fulda Soroptimists have also been our guests twice. During their five-day stay, our members were treated to a visit to the state garden show, a tour of Fulda and the castle. There also enjoyed the local food. “It is an honour for us and our club that you are here,” announced the President of the SI Club Fulda Tricia Kuhn. “It’s beautiful here in Fulda and we’re very happy to be back here after the long Covid break,” replied Jacky.
What are Friendship Links?
Friendship Links are ways in which Clubs come together to partner for furthering the objectives of Soroptimist International. The UN Millennium Development Goal 8 is to develop a global partnership for meeting the needs of development. For Soroptimists this translates this into Friendship Links. The Solihull Club currently has seven Friendship Link Clubs
