At the Liverpool Conference two Solihull Club members rose to new heights within the organisation of our Soroptimist International Federation taking on new challenges.
Isobel Smith was made President Elect of the Federation – she will become Federation President at the next Conference, to be held in Bournemouth in autumn 2019.
Jan Hemlin was inducted into the role of Midland Arden Region President – she will steer the 12 Clubs making up the Region for the next twelve months. Using the quote of Mahatma Gandhi, Jan’s theme is “The Future Depends on What you Do Today”. One of her objectives is to improve the understanding of the role of Soroptimists within the United Nations and to support this she is planning a trip to the UN in Geneva next April.
Several other Club members joined Isobel and Jan at the Conference.
Isobel joined SI Birmingham Central in 1992 and transferred to SI Solihull in 2012. She has been President at both Club and Region level, and was Councillor for SI Midland Arden for four years. She served for two years as Director without Portfolio, before applying for the Director of Organisational Development post.
Jan was a Founder Member of SI Solihull in 2000 and has been Club President. She held Programme Action roles at Club and Region before being elected as UK Programme Action Chair. She has also held the roles of Assistant Programme Director for Violence and Conflict Resolution and Acting Assistant Programme Director Education within the Federation.
