Held on Saturday 6th February 2016 at the St John’s Hotel, Solihull, the aim of the competition is to encourage this vital skill in young people as part of our education initiatives in our Community.
There were 13 entrants this year and the Senior winner (14-17 category) from Alderbrook School, Solihull, went forward to the Midland Arden Region competition in Dudley on March 12th. The Intermediate winner was from Light Hall School, Solihull. The runners up were (Intermediate) from John Henry Newman Catholic College, and (Senior) from CTC Kingshurst Academy.
The standard was exceptional and Light Hall Academy had held an in house competition to find entrants. We are encouraging this with other schools in the Borough.
Both winners received trophies for their schools and personal vouchers. Runners up also received vouchers and all entrants received a Certificate.
Thanks must go to the eminent judging panel led by Councillor Joe Tildesley, Solihull MBC, Anne Brereton, Director of Managed Growth, Solihull MBC, and Deputy Lord Lieutenant of West Midlands, Stephen Goldstein CBE.
At Dudley Council Chambers on March 12th the judges were past International SI President Ann Garvie, the past Federation president Jenny Vince and Mr Sharma, Consulate of India. Solihull’s candidate from Alderbrook School gave a flawless performance which she delivered with great flair and confidence. Her delivery and presentation were mature beyond her years and we are so pleased that such a talented young lady won the Regional Competition. She has a sparkling future and is encouraged to go on with this skill, being very talented in other areas as well, county cricketer, guitarist, performing arts.
Next year’s competition will be held on Saturday 4th February at the Civic Suite, Council House, Solihull.
